In the past, media used to portray women flatly as sex objects in mens perspective rather than people (Smelik, 2009, pg 180; Klein, 1993, pg 61). Evidently, this sexual objectification could be attributed to the voyeuristic optical pleasure which is looking at a person as an object (Mulvey, as cited in Smelik, 2009, pg 180). Undoubtedly, men control this power to objectify (Smelik, 2009, pg 180) as the spectator is always assumed to be a male (Klein, 1993, pg61). Hence, men adopt an active home of looking while women adopt a passive personate of being looked at.
